Senior Privacy Counsel

The main task of Senior Privacy Counsel is to act as lead counsel for the Bolt Ridehailing vertical as part of the Privacy Legal Team. Part of a fast-expanding international team, in this HQ function, the Senior Privacy Counsel will be expected to provide best-in-class legal advice and counsel support on privacy matters across Europe for the Ridehailing vertical and be responsible for driving the data privacy agenda for the Ridehailing vertical.

• Act as a trusted adviser to the wider business, providing timely and practical responses to some of the most complex first-line requests for legal counsel and support.
• To work closely with the Head of Privacy, to develop and lead on a number of data protection initiatives in creative, business-centric ways and building processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly.
• To engage with the DPO Team, acknowledging official guidance and statutory codes among other authoritative sources, and operate within the internal engagement Playbooks here at Bolt.
• Ensure the business adapts to changing interpretations and compliance obligations of privacy and data protection laws in key markets, including those identified as high risk, working with the DPO’s Monitoring Officer and others.
• Draft and negotiate various data protection contracts and agreements, including those most complex data-sharing arrangements with important third parties including commercial partners and public authority partnerships.
• Advising on data transfers and other international obligations, undertaking the drafting and negotiation, where appropriate, for data processing agreements and model clauses.
• To keep abreast of the very latest developments in data protection law with a view to practical implementation.
• To help drive and promote the Privacy and Data Protection Team, including the DPO function space, as a centre for excellence.
• To help drive privacy and data protection as a comparative commercial advantage for Bolt.
• To assist in all other necessary tasks that are typically associated with a legal counsel position as and when those requirements arise from the business.

• A law degree from a reputable European or UK university.
• A minimum of 7 years’ experience focused on privacy law matters, including ideally at least 3-4 years of in-house experience - preferably in high-growth, technology and direct-to-consumer business.
• Demonstrated experience in advising product and engineering teams on privacy risks associated with feature/product development and strong background in drafting and negotiating complex privacy agreements.
• Comprehensive understanding of European/UK privacy laws and regulations with experience of privacy laws in Africa and Middle East regions.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, demonstrated ability to identify emerging industry issues and develop strategies to align with business objectives.
• Collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively and efficiently in a team to accomplish shared goals in an inclusive and open manner.
• A creative and pragmatic approach, along with the ability to thrive independently in a fast-paced global environment.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
